Japan v GeorgiaSaturday 13 July 2024 | 12:05Yurtec Stadium, Sendai City
After sitting out last week, the Brave Blossoms get the chance to make amends for their 17-52 thrashing at the hands of England two weeks back when they welcome Georgia to the Yurtec Stadium in Sendai on Saturday. That result was a tough one to take for Eddie Jones and his new team, but one would think they will make more of a fist of it against the Lelos here.
With Italy up next for Japan, it’s important they build some momentum as Jones looks to get his players familiar with the way he wants to play leading up to the next World Cup.
Georgia fell to a disappointing 12-21 defeat to Fiji on the weekend in Batumi. Currently ranked 14th, two spots below their opponents this week, they are firmly seen as underdogs heading into this one.
If Richard Cockerill’s charges can trouble the Japanese in contact and stifle the breakneck speed at which they like to play, they could have an opening. The breakdown will also be vital, and a scrap on the floor will definitely suit the eastern Europeans. That said, it would be a surprise if Eddie doesn’t figure out a way to outwit Georgia’s power game.
Brave Blossoms Set for Twickenham Return in 2024
The Japan Rugby Football Union is delighted to announce that the Brave Blossoms will play England for a second time this year when they visit Twickenham this Autumn.
It is the fifth test match to be announced for Japan’s 2024 season, in which the Brave Blossoms will also host England in their first test of the year, in the Lipovitan D Challenge Cup 2024, at Tokyo’s National Stadium on Saturday, 22 June.

Wales haven’t won in Australia since 2003 – and nobody has beaten the Wallabies at their AAMI Park stronghold in 30 years – but the visitors ran the Wallabies extremely close in Dunedin last Saturday, coming out on the wrong side of a 16-15 scoreline after a scintillating test match. Head coach Steve Borthwick is mostly keeping faith with the XV who ran the Wallabies so close, with Fin Baxter replacing the injured Joe Marler at loosehead, and Freddie Steward a late replacement for George Furbank at full-back. Australia boss Scott Robertson has made a single change, with Finlay Christie coming in for TJ Perenara at scrum-half in this second test.
It’s an early start for UK-based Wales fans this morning, as the AAMI Park match kicks off at 8.05am BST (7.05pm NZST).
