After recovering from a slow start to defeat Tommy Paul, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will meet a familiar foe in the semi-finals when he plays Daniil Medvedev.

It was exactly one year ago that the Spaniard secured a comfortable straight-set victory over the Russian to reach his maiden Wimbledon final. The three-time Grand Slam champion has looked vulnerable at times during his run to the last four but has raised his game when needed and will be confident of reaching another major final.

However, Medvedev presents a real threat and appears to finally be getting to grips with the slick grass courts. Having traditionally struggled at SW19, he has reached the semi-finals for the second straight year, achieving it in style by overcoming world number one Jannik Sinner in the last eight. The 28-year-old has lost his last two meetings with Alcaraz, but does possess a victory over the Spaniard at a Slam after beating him in the semi-final at last year’s US Open.

WIMBLEDON SEMIFINALS SCHEDULE: WHEN AND WHERE TO WATCH

The first semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will get underway from 1:30 pm local time and 6 pm IST on the Centre Court. Novak Djokovic will take on Lorenzo Musetti after the first semi-final on Centre Court.

Alcaraz and Medvedev have played six times with the Spaniard winning four of their matches. Friday will be the third time they meet in Wimbledon. Medvedev defeated Alcaraz in the second round in 2021 before losing to him in the 2023 semi-final.

Djokovic and Musetti have met each other on the tour six times with the Serb winning five of them. Musetti's only win came in Monte Carlo on clay last year.

Daniil Medvedev has the tools to trouble Carlos Alcaraz, but the Spaniard is likely to win the first semi-final in four sets. Alcaraz will be keen on extending his title run and give himself another shot at glory.

Novak Djokovic, who is well rested, is likely to beat Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets or four sets.

Three of the top five seeds in the Wimbledon men's singles draw advanced to Friday's semifinals.

No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic, No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev are all regulars at this juncture of Grand Slam tournaments.

No. 25 seed Lorenzo Musetti is the semifinal newcomer of the Wimbledon quartet. He entered London with no wins past the fourth round at any major.

Alcaraz and Medvedev square off in the marquee semifinal contest. Medvedev will likely be involved in another epic match after he knocked out top seed Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic is well rested since he advanced to the semifinals by way of a walkover due to Alex De Minaur's injury.

A fresh Djokovic is the last thing Musetti wanted to see in his first Grand Slam semifinal, where he will be a significant underdog.

The men's semifinals begin at 8 a.m. ET on Friday and can be viewed on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

No. 2 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 25 Lorenzo Musetti

Djokovic carries an edge in every category for his matchup with Musetti.

Djokovic is the far more experienced player at this stage of a Grand Slam, will have two extra days of rest and owns a 5-1 head-to-head advantage over the Italian.

The expectation is that Djokovic will run through the semifinal as fast as possible so that he can save energy for what should be a battle with either Alcaraz or Medvedev in Sunday's championship match.

Musetti won two sets off Djokovic at Roland Garros this season, but he faltered in the final two sets by only winning three points.

The No. 25 seed has either gone four or five sets in all of his matches at Wimbledon. That could play a big factor in how he fares against Djokovic as the match goes on.

Djokovic has lost two sets in London, but he is coming off his most impressive performance of the tournament, a straight-set round of 16 win over No. 15 seed Holger Rune.

No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 5 Daniil Medvedev

Friday's main event will be the seventh time Alcaraz and Medvedev face off in their careers.

Alcaraz owns a 4-2 edge in the series that featured five matches since the start of the 2023 season.

The pair of top-five seeds met twice in Grand Slam semifinals last year. Alcaraz won in straight sets at Wimbledon, while Medvedev earned a four-set victory at the U.S. Open.

Alcaraz comes into Friday with slightly fresher legs since he only went to four sets against Tommy Paul, while Medvedev needed five sets to take down Sinner.

Alcaraz is the better grass-court player, but Medvedev usually rises to the occasion when he faces the top players in the rankings.
