While many Milwaukee Brewers fans are fuming over Brice Turang's omission from the National League all-star team, followers of the Pittsburgh Pirates were thrilled to learn rookie phenom Paul Skenes was selected to the NL pitching staff.
After starting only 10 games, Skenes is 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA. He's averaging 7.8 strikeouts per start. Skenes is the first player to make the mid-summer classic after being taken with the first pick in the draft in the previous year.
With Skenes now on the all-star roster despite not arriving in the big leagues until May, there has been considerable buzz about his chances of starting the game.
And it just so happens that Skenes' final start before the break is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at American Family Field. That would put Skenes on normal rest to pitch in next Tuesday night's game in Arlington, Texas.
The Brewers' bats have a chance to slow that anticipation and speculation when they face Skenes this week.
