Two South American powerhouses will meet with a chance to make the semifinals of Copa America on the line, but both are trending in quite different directions. Uruguay are coming off of being the top scoring team at Copa America during the group stage, while Brazil not only played to a draw against Costa Rica, but also will need to find attacking form without star attacker Vinicius Junior available. After picking up his second yellow card of the group stage against Colombia, the Real Madrid man will miss a critical match despite needing to step up as Brazil look for a focal point in attack.
Here's what you need to know before tuning in.

TV: FS1 | Li𝚟e stream: Fubo (Try for free)
Odds: Uruguay +190; Draw +200; Brazil +165
Storylines
Uruguay: After leaving the match against the United States on a stretcher, winger Maxi Araujo may not be available for Uruguay forcing Marcelo Bielsa into a lineup change. Araujo has scored two goals and assisted one more for Uruguay who have thrived on a strong team attack which will be needed to keep Brazil off balance. Led by Darwin Nunez, their press is relentless and when the opposition turns the ball over, Uruguay can turn attack into defense extremely quickly. Brazil will have trouble keeping up with their attacking movements, but in transition, Uruguay can be vulnerable as well. Ronald Araujo isn't able to be everywhere on defense despite his strong form which could provide chances.
Brazil: With Vini Jr. unavailable, it will be time for another Real Madrid man to step up as Endrick will be handed his first start of Copa America. The 17-year-old has yet to put his stamp on the tournament. As Brazil's stars fail to shine, there's a chance that he could be the person to help put them back on the right track, but it couldn't come against much tougher opposition than Uruguay at this stage of Copa America.
Predicted lineups
Uruguay: Sergio Rochet, Nahitan Nandez, Ronald Araujo,Mathias OLi𝚟era, Matias Vina, Federico Valverde, Manuel Ugarte, Facundo Pellistri, Nicolas de la Cruz, Cristian OLi𝚟era, Darwin Nunez
Brazil: Alisson, Wendell, Marquinhos, Eder Militao, Danilo, Joao Gomes, Bruno Guimaraes, Raphinha, Lucas Paqueta, Rodrygo, Endrick
Prediction
This is close to the worst possible matchup that Brazil could face as their issues in attack will turn into quick goals for Uruguay which will book Bielsa's side in the Copa America semifinals. Pick: Uruguay 2, Brazil 1

With Neymar in the stands, Brazil failed to score against Costa Rica in their Copa America Group D opener, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Although Brazil had the vast majority of possession, Costa Rica’s deep defending worked to plan against their superior opponents. Brazil faced further frustration with a number of questionable calls from the officials early on, including a Marquinhos goal that was ruled offside in the 30th minute by the video assistant referee.
It was an inconspicuous start for Brazil at LA’s SoFi Stadium, as they called on 17-year-old Endrick to replace Vinicius Junior in the 71st minute in an attempt to find a spark.
How Uruguay reached the knockouts: the USMNTOn the final night of Copa America Group C play, the U.S. men’s national team had to match or better Panama’s result against Bolivia. The challenge was that the U.S. would have to do it against unbeaten group leaders Uruguay.
The U.S. stayed with Uruguay in a frenetic and physical first half made all the more chaotic by odd decisions from an inexperienced referee and a strange camera angle for the TV broadcast. But in the second half, Uruguay broke through, scoring a goal in the 66th minute that the U.S. could not answer as they exited the tournament.
How Uruguay reached the knockouts: BoliviaEarly goals from Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez got Uruguay off to a fast start against Bolivia and they didn’t look back, winning 5-0 with five different goalscorers to all but seal their place in the Copa America quarterfinals.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men had more goals in this win over Bolivia than any other Copa America team has had across the entire tournament so far.
How Uruguay reached the knockouts: Panama
Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay got off to a fast start at the Copa America, attacking Panama with nine shots in the first 20 minutes of their first group match in Miami. But even with the plentiful chances, they only managed a 1-0 lead until Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez sealed the victory in the 86th minute and Matias Vina made it 3-0 in added time. Panama got one back at the death to put the final score at 3-1.
Maxi Araujo scored the match’s first goal in spectacular fashion in the 16th minute. Nunez squandered several chances to extend the lead against an inferior opponent before he scored in the final five minutes.
What are Copa America extra-time rules?
Unlike the European Championship, which is being played concurrently in Germany, Copa America does not use extra time.
Not until the final anyway.
Tournament rules dictate that if the teams are level after 90 minutes of play, the game will go straight to penalties.
The regulations detail this as follows:
Article 26 – In the knockout phase, if there is a tie at the end of regular time in the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, or the Third-Place match, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout in accordance with the rules stipulated by IFAB/FIFA.
In non-legalese this means this format will be used all the way through the knockout rounds of the tournament (quarterfinals and semifinals) until the final, where a deadlocked game would see an extra 30 minutes used to decide a winner before a shootout.
Article 27 – Specifically for the final match, if there is a tie at the end of regular time, an extra time consisting of two 15-minute halves will be played. If the tie persists at the end of extra time, a penalty shootout will be held in accordance with the rules stipulated by IFAB/FIFA to determine the winner.
This has long been the format with the final also using the same rules between 1995 and 2004. The only tournament where extra-time was used for each knockout round was 2011 before returned to previous rules at the next edition in 2015.
Brazil’s record so far
Brazil 0-0 Costa Rica
Paraguay 1-4 Brazil
Brazil 1-1 Colombia
Brazil are yet to truly ignite at this tournament. Their top scorer in the USA is Vinicius Jr, with two goals, but they will have to do without him today after he picked up a second yellow card of the tournament in the draw with Colombia.
Uruguay’s record so far
Uruguay 3-1 Panama
Uruguay 5-0 Bolivia
United States 0-1 Uruguay
Uruguay are the only side remaining at the Copa America with a 100% record — after Argentina drew after 90 minutes with Ecuador (and won) and Venezuela drew after 90 minutes with Canada (and lost).
